Thighplasty (Thigh Lift)

What is a thigh lift?

Navigating the final stages of a weight loss journey or addressing stubborn changes in your body is a deeply personal experience. As an all-female surgical team here in Toronto, Dr. Mahoney and Dr. Yeung approach lower body contouring with meticulous precision and genuine empathy.

A thigh lift (thighplasty) is a highly effective body contouring procedure designed to permanently remove this heavy, inelastic skin and underlying fat. Depending on your unique anatomy, we frequently pair this excision with targeted liposuction to ensure a beautifully refined and seamless result from your hips down to your knees.

The placement depends on your specific anatomy: For a mini (crescent) thigh lift, if your loose skin is concentrated high up in the inner thigh, the incision can often be hidden entirely within the natural crease of your groin (like the panty line). A full (vertical) thigh lift, involves removing more extensive loose skin extending down toward the knee (very common after massive weight loss); the incision will start in the groin and run vertically down the inner inseam of your thigh. We meticulously place this so it is least visible when you are standing normally.

We always want to be completely candid: a thigh lift is not a treatment for cellulite. Cellulite is caused by fibrous bands tethering the skin to the underlying muscle, creating dimples. While pulling the skin taut during a thigh lift can sometimes make the skin look slightly smoother, it will not eliminate cellulite entirely.

Yes. Immediately following your surgery, your arms will be wrapped in snug compression sleeves. These garments are a vital part of your recovery. They help minimize post-operative swelling, reduce fluid buildup, and support your newly contoured arm shape as the tissues heal and settle. You will typically wear these sleeves day and night for the first 4-6 weeks, taking them off only to shower.

Absolutely. For many of our patients, the functional relief of a thigh lift is just as life-changing as the cosmetic improvement. By removing the heavy, excess skin and narrowing the circumference of the upper leg, we can eliminate the friction that causes painful rashes and chafing when you walk or exercise.

Yes, compression garments are a mandatory and crucial part of your recovery. You will be fitted with a specialized, snug garment (similar to tight biker shorts or leggings) to wear day and night for the first 3 to 4 weeks. This garment acts as an external support system, helping to minimize swelling, reduce fluid buildup, and encourage your skin to adhere smoothly to its new shape.
