Mommy Makeover

What is mommy makeover?

A Mommy Makeover isn't a single set surgery; it is a fully personalized combination of procedures designed to restore your pre-pregnancy contours. Typically, it involves a rejuvenating breast procedure (such as a lift, augmentation, or both) paired with an abdominal contouring procedure (like a tummy tuck to repair separated muscles, often combined with liposuction). It can also include procedures related to the face (like a facelift, eyelid surgery, or fat grafting). Dr. Mahoney and Dr. Yeung will work closely with you to design a surgical plan tailored precisely to your unique aesthetic goals.

Yes, we highly recommend waiting until you are confident your family is complete. While it is perfectly safe from a medical standpoint to become pregnant after these procedures, a future pregnancy will stretch your abdominal muscles, skin, and breast tissue all over again. This can affect the beautifully tailored results we achieved during your surgery.

Absolutely. Combining procedures is very common and completely safe for healthy candidates. The major benefit is that you only undergo general anesthesia once and consolidate your downtime into a single recovery period. As an all-female surgical team, we prioritize your safety and peace of mind above all else; if combining your specific aesthetic goals would result in an overly long time under anesthesia, we will thoughtfully recommend staging the procedures to ensure a smooth, secure recovery.

A Mommy Makeover usually involves abdominal muscle repair; as such, you will have strict lifting restrictions. For the first 2 to 3 weeks, you cannot lift anything over 5 to 10 pounds—which unfortunately includes babies and toddlers. You will absolutely need full-time, hands-on help with childcare, housework, and driving during this initial healing phase. Most patients feel ready to return to light desk work and normal daily routines around 3 to 4 weeks, with full exercise and heavy lifting resuming at 6 weeks.

It depends on your unique aesthetic goals. You may undergo face related procedures at any time. For breast related procedures, we recommend waiting about 6 months after lactation, after you've finished breastfeeding, and once you're not planning future pregnancies. This allows the breast tissue to fully settle from your body's hormonal fluctuations, which will help optimize your results. Similarly, we recommend waiting 6 months before undergoing an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) to allow the body to heal, hormones to stabilize, and skin to shrink. Ideally, it is recommended to wait until you are done having children and have reached a stable weight, as future pregnancies can reverse the surgical results.

One of the greatest benefits of liposuction is that the incisions required are incredibly small—usually less than a quarter of an inch long. We meticulously place these tiny incisions in natural body creases or hidden areas (like the belly button or the bikini line) whenever possible. Over time, these small marks typically fade into very faint, barely noticeable lines.
