This is a common point of confusion. A brow lift raises the heavy, sagging tissue of the forehead, which naturally pulls the brow line up and reduces crowding over the eyes. Upper eyelid surgery specifically removes excess, crepey skin directly from the eyelids themselves. Often, patients think they need eyelid surgery when the real culprit is a descending, heavy brow pushing down on the eye area. These procedures are frequently performed together for a complete upper-face refresh.
When performed by a highly skilled, board-certified plastic surgeon, the answer is no. Modern brow lifts focus on subtle, natural repositioning rather than pulling the skin overly tight. The goal is to restore your brow to where it rested in your twenties or thirties, making you look rested, bright, and vibrant—never artificial or permanently startled.
Botox and other neuromodulators are fantastic for temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause forehead wrinkles, and they can provide a very subtle, temporary "chemical brow lift." However, injectables cannot remove or elevate significant, heavy, sagging tissue. If you have visible tissue descent, a surgical brow lift is the only way to achieve a meaningful, long-lasting elevation.
With modern endoscopic techniques, permanent hair loss is extremely rare. You may experience some very minor, temporary hair thinning right at the incision sites, but the hair typically regrows beautifully within a few months.
You will usually be cleared to gently wash your hair with a mild, baby shampoo within 48 to 72 hours after surgery. This milestone often makes patients feel instantly refreshed. You will just need to be very gentle around the incision sites and avoid using hot styling tools (like blow dryers or curling irons) near the scalp until you are fully healed.
