Otoplasty

What is an otoplasty?

Otoplasty, commonly known as ear pinning or ear surgery, is a highly effective procedure designed to improve the shape, position, and proportion of the ears.

By meticulously reshaping or removing excess cartilage and securing the ears closer to the head, otoplasty creates a more natural, harmonious balance with the rest of your facial features.

This procedure can significantly alleviate self-consciousness caused by prominent or asymmetrical ears, often leading to a profound boost in self-esteem and confidence.

The incisions for otoplasty are carefully placed in the natural fold behind the ear. Because of this strategic placement, the resulting scars are exceptionally well-hidden and virtually undetectable once fully healed, even if you wear your hair up or have very short hair.

Wearing a soft, supportive headband is a crucial part of the healing process. It holds your ears in their new position, prevents them from being accidentally bent forward (especially while sleeping), and significantly reduces swelling. You will typically wear it continuously for the first week, and then just at night for a few more weeks.

Our surgical philosophy prioritizes natural-looking results. We meticulously reshape the cartilage to recreate soft, natural folds and a harmonious angle relative to the head. The goal is never to plaster the ears completely flat against the scalp, but rather to achieve a balanced, proportional appearance that doesn't look "operated on."

Yes! The cartilage is permanently reshaped and secured with internal sutures. Once fully healed, the ears will maintain their new position for a lifetime. Very rarely, some minor shifting can occur over the years, but the primary improvement is permanent.

While otoplasty is often performed on children to prevent teasing and self-esteem issues during school years, it is extremely common for adults to undergo this procedure as well. The cartilage in adult ears is fully formed, making the surgery straightforward and highly successful at any age.
